Designing More Than Great Roofs

Congratulations to Frank & Michael Valenti of Designed Roofing for taking the final Business Garden of the Week award for this summer. With a little help from Gerd Schutz, Designed Roofing has done a great job of adding some colour and flair to the in Ferris Drive industrial park.

    Thanks to fellow competitors on last week's Bay Today poll - North Bay Audiology and the Super 8 Motel - great gardens all.

    To all of the businesses and individuals who made the extra effort to brighten up their storefronts this summer, from all of us on the committee and everyone who has taken some pleasure in enjoying your flowers and landscaping - thanks for making North Bay Bloom!


McDonald's Takes the Gold.

Casey's Is Comin' Up Roses ( well, petunias at least ).   July 11

Casey's Grill & Bar was recognized this week by the North Bay Blooms Committee as their business garden of the week. Located at one of the major intersections in the city, the gardens and landscaping make a great impression on local residents and persons travelling along the bypass. Claude Sharma of Cogeco, one of this years major sponsors of North Bay Blooms, made the presentation on behalf of the committee. Thanks to Terry Tourigny and his talented staff that not only cook up a great menu but also do a great job of making North Bay bloom.

             Next week on Bay Today will be another voting poll for business garden of the week. Tim Hortons Marshall Park location, McDonalds on McKeown Avenue and Canadian Tire will duke it out for bragging rights to Best Business Garden of the Week. Contestants get your trowels and your mouse pads ready


Tip of the Flower Bucket to Ultimate Sportscards

Ultimate Sportscards on Cassells St was chosen as Business Garden of the Week this week by the North Bay Blooms Committee. Congratulations to Robert and especially his mom who apparently is in charge of the flowering end of the business.  The front yard gardens facing Cassells St. brighten up one of the main streets into the City and are easily visible just before First Baptist Church at the corner of Cassells and Princess St W.  On behalf on North Bay Blooms and everyone who enjoys the flowers as they walk or drive by - thank you for your efforts to make North Bay Bloom. This weeks presentation was made by Northgate Square Manager Kathryn Takacs.


Friday, June 27                                Cycle Works

Congratulations to Kevin and the staff for winning the Bay Today pollong this week for Best Business Garden. Their colourful planters have been noticed by many passerbys this summer on the John St detour.  Congratulations to Curbside Diner and Trans-Canada Supply for competing with great colourful storefronts and to everyone - keep up the great work!


Friday, June 20                           Best Western Resort Hotel                     

Congratulations to Manageress Ruth St Phard, Angela Johnston and all of the staff at the Best Western hotel for a great job on the gardens at the front of the hotel.  In spite of recent cool and gray weather they have done a wonderful job of maintaining bright colours by using hardier varieties and loys of TLC.

On one of the cities busier access roads it also creates a great impression for everyone passing by on Lakeshore Drive - keep up the great work!

Tip o' the Hat To City of North Bay and Parks & Recreation staff

Gremlins in the camera and overcast skies made for tough picture taking but North Bay Blooms was pleased to recognize the City of North Bay's Parks & Recreation Department for all of their hard work to set up not only 129 planters in the downtown area last week but for mainting and improving of of the cities public garden areas.  City Councilor Mike Anthony and Elaine ( in the orange jump suit) received the Cerificate of Appreciation on behalf of the City from North Bay Blooms "Business Garden of the Week" and Chamber of Commerce Manager Patti (its-freezing-but-I'm-wearing-shorts-anyway!) Carr.  Ralph Diegel (at left) attended on behalf D.I.A. and North Bay Blooms chair Chris Mayne (at right).


Friday, June 6                                  L'Ami's  Garden Center

For the last 5 years L'Ami's Garden Center has been decorating the La Vase River bridge on Lakeshore Drive with a number of mixed plantesr and pots of flowers. Thank you to Case L'Ami and his family and staff for making one of North Bay's entrances just a little bit more colourful!
