August 24        Nipissing Dons & Staff Get Bagged

Thank you to Lynn Charron & David Hamilton for organizing a neighbourhood clean up by almost fifty Nipissing University residence Dons & Staff. Great job by many of these second and third year students for pitching in and making an effort to keep their adopted home community clean and litter free.  M & M  and triple chocolate chip cookies gave everyone a big energy burst just before clean up time - thanks for your help and have a great year!

        A huge thank you to T D Friends of the Environment, Graham, Turner, Judy, Mandy, Kelly and all of the T D Canada Trust staff for helping with our last Wednesday Clean Up Night for this summer. Sixteen bags of litter and an abandoned bike were picked along the Laurentian Avenue entrance area to Northgate Square at one of the most productive clean up nights all summer.

       Thanks you also to TD Friends of the Environment for being a major sponsor of North Bay Blooms this summer and making Tree North Bay, the Front Yard Garden Contest and the Clean Up Nights possible.

        From all of us with North Bay Blooms thanks to everyone who helped clean up this summer and we look forward to seeing you out there again next year!

Thursday, July 10                                                                           North Bay & District Association for Community Living

        Wednesday night clean up happened twice this week as the North Bay & District Association for Community Living hosted a barbeque at F J Dellandrea Place and helped out with over 35 volunteers to clean up around the Commerce Court area. Julie Weir co-ordinated the effort including hamburgers and hot dogs for all. A lawn mower, several old tires, an abandoned weed trimmer and numerous bags of litter were picked up along Commerce Court and Wallace Drive.

Next Wednesday's clean up will be jointly hosted by the Rotary Clubs of North Bay and Nipissing and will focus on the intersection of Cassells St. and Highway 11 - volunteers are welcome to help out, 6:00 p.m., Beer Store parking lot.


Wednesday, July 9     Pulp & Paper Health & Safety Association

Congratulations to the Pulp & Paper Health &Safety Association for making McKeown Avenue a safer and cleaner place for everyone to walk and enjoy. In total about 12 bags of litter, old cardboard and carpet remnants were picked up from along the roadside.  City of North Bay crews were a great help in picking up the trash bags again this week and taking to the Merrick landfill. thanks to Danielle Albright for organizing last nights volunteers and City Councilor Judy Koziol for helping out on behalf of the North Bay Blooms Committee and taking these great pictures!


Wednesday, July 2                         U-Need-a-Clean Up!  

       The folks at U Need a Cab get a big thumbs up from the folks at North Bay Blooms for their efforts during the Wednesday night clean up.

Almost 25 people worked towards cleaning up the Algonquin Avenue and Highway 17 intersection roadside and collected over 18 bags of litter.

Thanks to John and Kathy Strang for organizing a great volunteer effort and one of the busiest clean up nights yet from all of the North Bay Blooms Committee. 


Wednesday, June 25                      Blooming Voyageurs

Friends of La Vase Portages partnered up with North Bay Blooms this week to clean up around the Brandy Lake trailhead for La Vase Portages and along Highway 17 to Elk's Beach.  Several bags of the usual stuff, bottles, plastics, two toilet plungers and a discarded waste basket were picked up and the area is now in great shape for the planned Canoe Day July 26. Wednesday, June 18    Crime Stoppers Get Bagged

Wednesday, June 18     North Bay & District Chamber of Commerce

Chamber Vice President Sean Lawlor led the clean up crew of over twenty persons Wednesday night. "I think everyone was surprised by how much litter we found"  The haul for the evening included 16 tires and about 20 bags of litter from along the roadside and trails.


Wednesday, June 11     Big Brothers Big Sisters International

Big Brothers & Big Sisters did a great job of cleaning up the Booth Road area picking up almost 18 bags of litter. Lots of sunshine and no bugs made for a good evenings work. Thanks  to Sherry, Darlene and all of the " go girls "  staff for their help organizing the kids and volunteers. 

Thank you again to City of North Bay staff for helping with pick up of the debris and taking to the landfill.


Monday, June 9                 RBC Royal Bank Stockdale Branch

RBC Stockdale Branch pitched in Monday afternoon to clean up the Stockdale Road and Algonquin Avenue area. About 20 bags of garbage were picked up of various plastics and assorted disposable food and beverage packagings. Deputy Mayor Peter Chirico who helped out with the clean up commented that everyone was surprised to see just how much litter ther really was in the area. Congratulations to RBC for getting involved with their Community Week.


Wednesday, June 4       Greater Nipissing Stewardship Council

Thank you to GNSC for taking on our first Community Clean Up Night.  Bill Hagborg, John Thornton,Gail Laird, Dennis Chippa, Coucillor Judy Koziol and a number of others picked up about 20 bags of litter and debris along Airport Road.

Thank you to Jamie Houston and City of North Bay staff for picking up the waste bags afterwards and taking them to the landfill.


Saturday, May 10        Tim Hortons Community Clean Up Day

Thank you to everyone who pitched in!  North Bay Blooms worked with host Tim Hortons again this year at their Marshall Park location and with help from the Rotary Club of North Bay, Big Brothers & Big Sisters, District Association for Community Living and  a number of others, we picked up two refrigerators, several old tires, a chair, a television and 24 bags of garbage.

Thanks especially to Ken Coughlan and the Marshall Park location for providng t-shirts and gloves - enough to supply the clean up nights for most of the summer - we greatly appreciate your support.
